Honouring Two Former LW Juniors!

Hayley Zauch & Gregor Aitchison Selected for National Teams

We are very pleased to share these fantastic stories of two former junior Leichhardt Wanderer cricketers, with their national selections for Australia & Scotland respectively!

Hayley Zauch - Australia U19s

Hayley, (2024 Noella Merrick Medal recipient) has been selected to represent Australia U19s in the upcoming tri-nations tournament against New Zealand and Sri Lanka. Hayley has had a terrific year, being part of the successful U19 NSW team which won the National Championships in Brisbane (taking 6 catches and 2 stumpings as wicket-keeper) and recently Hayley made her debut for the NSW Breakers in a trial match vs Tasmania where she was the third top scorer for NSW and played her part in a 60-run partnership with Anika Learoyd.

Gregor Aitchison - Scotland Youth

During the July holidays, Gregor Aitchison made his debut for the Scotland Pathways cricket team. Gregor has Scottish heritage through both his parents and he was in Scotland for three weeks playing club cricket for Heriot’s CC and for the Eastern Knights in the Scottish Regional U17 Competition where he finished as the top wicket taker. Based on his performances he was selected for the Scotland youth team and played two matches for them in England against Lancashire and Derbyshire where he opened the bowling, took another 3 wickets and scored 37 runs with the bat. He had a great time in the UK, meeting new people, making new friends and experiencing cricket in a totally different environment.

Both players give so much back to their junior club and you may see both of them down at Blackmore continuing to help our younger cricketers develop their own skills. Gregor is also assistant coach (with proud father Ian) for our under-17 turf team. Please join us in congratulating both players and we wish them both all the very best in their very promising careers!
